All horses who need help are here!

About Us

The Naturaliste Group rescues at-risk horses and conducts horse welfare advocacy.  We work to promote and protect horses across the full spectrum of the equine world, including horses in need from sport and leisure endeavours and horses used in the racing industry.

We contribute to helping solve the unwanted and abandoned animal issue within Australia through education and advocacy, strengthening the horse-human relationship using care, research, education and influence.

Located on the Naturaliste Coast, 250 km south of Perth, horses are rescued, rehabilitated and released into natural herds where they are used for ethological (behavioural) research.

All horse rescue, welfare and advocacy work are funded from profits generated by all Naturaliste Group entities:

  • Naturaliste Sanctuary

Naturaliste Sanctuary rescues at-risk horses and nurses them back to health. Through advocacy and welfare programs, we forge a change in the reasons horses end up in slaughterhouses, the treatment they receive when interacting with humans and an improved understanding of horse fair practice.  www.naturalistesanctuary.org

  • Naturaliste Ethology

Naturaliste Ethology conducts fee-based ethology programs for zoology, ethology, biomechanical PhD and private students using Sanctuary rescued and recovered horses.  www.naturalisteethology.org

  • Naturaliste Harvest Days

Naturaliste Harvest Days are our flagship fundraising event.  We invite people to buy a Harvest Basket and fill it to the brim while they graze the luscious Harvest Garden – and snack while they’re at it. Caffeinate after a hard half hour of Garden snacking with our Naturaliste organic coffee. Loads of food, loads of fun and the gorgeous DunsBros stallions perform. www.harvestdays.com

  • Naturaliste Harvest Garden

Naturaliste Harvest Garden is a riot of open-pollinated, heirloom vegetables, berries and fruit trees living in walled ‘parterre à l’anglaise’ splendour and is the venue for our monthly Harvest Days.  See it in all its deliciousness at www.naturalistesanctuary.org/harvestgarden

  • Naturaliste Habitat Corridor

Naturaliste Habitat Corridor is 4.5 hectares of riparian area which flows across the Naturaliste Estate and into Station Gully Drain (Anniebrook Creek). The corridor is under repair to provide habitat to the endangered black cockatoos and ring-tailed possum. See the rehabilitation plans at  www.naturalistesanctuary.org/habitatcorridor

  • Naturaliste Friesians

Naturaliste Friesians is the home of the DunsBros performing stallions and the Leeuwin carriage mares. DunsBros and Leeuwin performances raise funds for horse rescue and promote horse welfare awareness.  See their antics here! www.naturalistefriesians.com
